
Medicaid Cancer Foundation Hosts Successful #WalkAwayCancer 5K Event and Donates N10 Million to the National Hospital for Cancer Patients
Medicaid Cancer Foundation, a leading nonprofit organisation dedicated to cancer awareness and support, proudly organised the #WalkAwayCancer 5KM walk in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in their mission to combat cancer.
The walk, which took place on October 28, 2023, starting from 2, Libreville Street, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, garnered the participation of thousands of enthusiastic individuals, including cancer survivors, caregivers, policy makers and supporters. Their collective aim was to raise awareness, express solidarity with those fighting cancer, and contribute to the fight against this challenging disease.
The #WalkAwayCancer event embodied unity, determination, and a shared commitment to reducing the burden of cancer. Participants, dressed in vibrant pink, blue and white kit, marched together in support of cancer patients and their families.
Her Excellency, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, the CEO of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the remarkable turnout. “This event underscores our unwavering dedication to raising awareness and fighting cancer. The overwhelming support we received is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of early detection, prevention, and support for those affected by this disease,” she stated.
During the event, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Economic Planning and Budget, encouraged stakeholders to advocate for increased government funding for cancer treatment and care. He acknowledged the substantial contributions made by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in supporting cancer patients and influencing cancer-related policies.
The #WalkAwayCancer event featured compelling speeches, survivor stories, and inspirational moments that deeply resonated with the participants. It symbolised a march of hope and a commitment to a cancer-free future. The funds raised during the event will be allocated to patient support, awareness campaigns, and cancer research initiatives.
In addition to the #WalkAwayCancer event, Medicaid Cancer Foundation showcased its dedication to improving the lives of cancer patients by donating a generous sum of 10 million Naira to support cancer patient treatment at the National Hospital Abuja. Dr. Bagudu expressed, “This donation reflects our commitment to working with the National Hospital Abuja to provide the best care and support to cancer patients.”
Prof. Mahmud Raji, Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital Abuja, expressed gratitude, saying, “We are thankful to the Medicaid Cancer Foundation for this generous donation, which will enhance our ability to provide the best care and support for our cancer patients.”
