MCF funds cancer patients treatment on World Cancer Day

N2m. to 10 patients. The event at MCF Office in Utako Abuja was attended by past and new beneficiaries as well as key stakeholders in cancer in Nigeria.

Patients gave moving accounts of their discovery and journey with cancer. Most touching was Nafisa, a 28year old mother from Kebbi who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her first pregnancy. Weeping profusely, she thanked Dr Bagudu for the support rendered to her. Through her advocacy, Kebbi state government took responsibility for her remaining round of chemotherapy to the tune of N3M.

NHIS boss Professor Muhammed Sambo narrated his personal experience with cancer and restated that the agency already funds treatment of cancer but are reorganizing and expanding the current cover.

The World Cancer Day event also saw the unveiling of the “One Call Away” Patient Support Helpline. It is a helpline created to bring help closer to patients suffering from cancer. The project is funded through a grant by the Union for International Cancer Control. Through this helpline, cancer patients will be linked with accessible health care professionals. It kicks off formally in March 2020.

CEO/Founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Dr Zainab Bagudu Shinkafi before presenting the cheque to beneficiaries spoke on the progress made so far in our advocacy drive and thanked all the sponsors and supporters of the foundation in particular her husband Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who has been her rock of support.
10 beneficiaries , including a 4 year old boy with Renal cancer were then presented with a symbolic cheque.
