KEBBI IMPROVES CANCER DATA COLLECTION

The newly established cancer registry in Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital Birnin Kebbi received a visit by the Founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu. Dr. Bagudu initiated the Cancer Desk at the State Ministry of Health and two hospital-based cancer registries.

The aim of the visit was to monitor progress, see the nature of the challenges being encountered and proffer possible solutions. The director of the registry Dr. M. Ambursa said urgent sensitization of medical and records personnel across the state was necessary so that they can feed their data to the system. Her Excellency agreed to facilitate the session in the near future and emphasized the importance of quality data to maximize cancer epidemiological studies and improve control in the state.

Also present at the visit were the State Cancer desk officer Dr. Jamilu Muhammad, the Registrar Dalhatu Buhari, data extractors and other hospital officials.
