You are not alone in the fight against breast cancer- @drzus.
The Abuja Breast Cancer Support Group (ABC-SG) held their August meeting on Saturday 24 August 2019. A monthly gathering where incredible survivors/champions come together to share their personal experiences and cancer treatment journey. This month, @medicaidcf hosted the meeting and the founder Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu had an interactive session. Here are some of the take home points
a. Doctors and patients both have responsibilities toward each other. Patients with experience of misdiagnosis should report to medical council and other professional bodies.
b. Patients should stop jumping from pillar to post; stick to the care of one physician and ask to be referred if unsatisfied.
c. Low hanging fruits like awareness should be increased for early diagnosis and treatments
d. Organizing advocacy meetings with high level stakeholders to include screening and treatment in NHIS and other insurance schemes.
e. Create more support groups across the country.
f. Imbibe the habit of paying for health insurance when we are working so to reduce out of pocket expenses when illness strikes.
